NHS PERFORMING ARTS SOCIETY PRESENTS FANTASTICAL FRIENDS
Naples High School’s Performing Arts Society will present Fantastical Friends, a play by Billy St. John from Tuesday, December 3rd through Thursday, December 5th, 2013. Performances will take place each evening beginning at 7:00 pm at the school in the Naples High School auditorium.(The auditorium is most conveniently accessed from 22nd Avenue North.)
The premise of the story is that a reluctant reader goes to the library to choose a novel for a book report. In the process, he meets a magical "Book Master", who guides him through his book choices, opening up vignettes from several of the well-studied classics of a typical high school English curriculum.
The selections range from Americana to Gothic, in styles as varied as Alice In Wonderland to Great Expectations, to Sherlock Holmes, etc., The Book Master affirms that "a youngster hooked on just one great book, he'll be a reader for life". We hope that the benefits of reading for pleasure, consistently reinforced by this character will resonate with students watching the play. The Classics convey timeless messages, while the wide variety of settings add a multicultural flavor as we travel from the Arabian Nights to Dracula's Transylvania. The play’s scenes will be interspersed with original choreography, interpretive music and dance, in signature Naples High style.
In addition, in conjunction with each evening’s performance, there will be a gift giveaways such as Ice Cream-for-a-Year, Greenery from Home Depot as well as an authentic Turkish Candle Lamp (from ShopTurkey.com.)
For additional information or show tickets please contact Chris Ellison, teacher and director at firstname.lastname@example.org or Cynthia Odierna, teacher and assistant director at email@example.com . Ticket Prices for the public are Adults/High School Students $7.00 each and Middle/Elementary Students $5.00 each.

NAPLES HIGH SCHOOL RECEIVES NATA SAFE SPORTS SCHOOL AWARD
Naples High School is the recipient of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Safe Sports School award for its interscholastic athletic program. The award champions safety and recognizes secondary schools that provide safe environments for student athletes. The award reinforces the importance of providing the best level of care, injury prevention and treatment.
Naples High School’s Certified Athletic Trainer Ali Hall: “Naples High School is honored to receive this 1st Team recognition from NATA, and we remain committed to keeping our student athletes safe during physical education classes, team practices and games so they can accomplish their own goals of great competition, winning records, fair sportsmanship and good health. Our goal is to lead our athletics program to the highest safety standards for our players.”
Physical activity is very important for our youth, according to NATA president Jim Thornton, MS, ATC, CES. “There has been an increase in competitive sports, which are, unfortunately, not without risk. Brain injury/concussion, cardiac arrest, heat illness, exertional sickling, cervical spine fractures and other injuries and illnesses are potentially life-threatening.” Proper planning with proper equipment and personnel is vital to the safety of student athletes today, he notes.
In order to achieve Safe Sport School status, as Naples High School did, athletic programs must do the following:
